School has now been in session for 6 weeks and I am finally getting around to posting about the girls' first day!
LOL! (must be those
bon bons and chi tea taking up too much of my time! HA!) The girls were all excited and pretty chipper for 7:30 in the morning....can't say the same about mom and dad! They had fun posing with their backpacks and first day outfits!

I think
Moriah thought she was going to a fashion show instead of school in this pose! Ha! (For a larger view, click on any pic) She thinks she's big stuff starting 1st grade! This summer one of the sisters in our church asked
Moriah how old she was, and with typical sass
Moriah said,
"Well, I am only 6, but I like to tell people I'm a teenager!" We just shake our heads over this child!
Gracelyn has waited a long time for this day. She so wanted to start school last year, but missed the cut off for
pre-K by 2 months. She was all smiles and has been ever since! She only goes half a day and
Moriah goes full day, so that means 3 trips to school for us....
uhhhgg! John has been able to take them in the morning on his way to work, so that has been a great help.

Poor
Riah, she has found out that 1st grade is a far cry from Kindergarten! The private Christian school they go to uses the
Abeka curriculum, and though it is good, it is quite advanced. It tends to be rather fast pace as well. For example, the first week of school they had 3 letter spelling words to study that were pretty simple...by the 3rd week they were up to 5 letter words with silent vowels!!! We have had to really drill and coach
Moriah at home to help her keep up and to do well. She is doing better now than she was at first and getting used to having homework every night. As long as we can keep her focused....* laughing
hysterically*....she does real good!
Gracelyn is having a blast in
pre-K! It's all fun and games to her. She is learning new things, but it's coming pretty easy for her. She would have done fine in Kindergarten, but at least this will give her a good solid foundation....something
Moriah really didn't have. Plus, I have noticed that Grace tends to gravitate towards younger kids to play with. So with being one of the older kids in her class she will be more in her element and comfort zone. She usually comes home tattling on all the little kids who didn't listen to the teacher like she did! HA!
We are still getting used to a stricter nightly schedule with them in school. There is not much time in the evenings anymore with homework, dinner, clean up, etc. It's keeping us hopping that's for sure! We are starting to relish our weekends.....only they go by too quickly!

Awwww! Nothing quite like those first-day-of-school pictures! =) Moriah does look like Little Miss Movie Star in that one pose.=) Very typical, and very cute!! And Grace looks so BIG! I can't believe she's in school. I'm glad she's enjoying it. Is it getting any easier with Riah's work?
You must be exhausted this morning after camping all weekend, and then staying up late to work on this blog. =) Did you guys have fun? Call me if you get a chance sometime this week.

Moriah & Gracelyn, You're absolutely adorable! But it takes more than a pretty face to get good grades. :-) Enjoy learning and have a great school year!
